My local Suzuki dealer informed me that Suzuki plans to dicontinue the DRZ 400 in the next 12 months, He said that America is no longer going to sell DRZ's and that Australia is only a small market, so looks like Suzuki is going to focus on the RMX 450, I dont know how true this is has anyone else heard of this ?

Havnt heard anything like this, but why would they when iys the biggest selling dirt bike in the aus market. I wouldnt buy a rmz 450.
If it is true then it just means that i am going to have a very long relationship with my drz.

This isnt the first time i have heard outlandish claims from dealers about new models. By this time of year they have already announced next years model releases. The last time i heard a funny claim about the drz was it was getting fuel injection for 2011, didnt happen.

I wouldnt hold your breath mate but lets hope its not true

apparently Suzuki Australia does not want it to be stop being made because it is a number one seller here, but Suzuki Japan sees Australia's sales of DRZ as a small percentage, I hope this is not true because that means a very bland dirt bike market of mainly 450 enduro bikes and I really like my DRZ.

The DRZ400 has had a 10 years model run. I think the only other bike to last on the market that long is the legendary XR600. The day will eventually come when Suzuki stop making The current model DRZ but this rumor has been going for the last 3-4 years and yet the DRZ is still here. The DRZ is still a good seller in the US especially the motord and we know it's a best seller here in Oz so I will believe this rumor when I see it.

I would like to see the current model replaced with something like an RMZ style bike with the DRZ400 motor and a six speed gear box. That is a bike I would trade my DRZ on.

Six speed would be nice, that would make me think about trading in. :cheer:

I hope not as well .. The aussie market wouldnt sway suzuki either way ..But all i see is the drz being more popular as the years go by ..And i dont mean the weekend rider , armed forces all around the world use them ,here in australia as well , the police here in australia and the USA use them .. I even have one ?.. Haven said that , (as we all know) Honda did just that to the xr 400 ... Personally i dont think other bikes like the wr and ktm ect are that much more advanced than the drz that it would be a big enough reason ...I would like to know what the sales figures were in the USA , that would probably give you a better idea if there was any truth to this... Anyway in the mean time STOP all this scary talk , im just about to get the tissues out ...

Well if this becomes the case then i'll be burried with the DRz. Nothing comes close on the market for value and relability and not wasting my time on a bike you have to service every time you take it for a decent run. I'm no Chad Reed and the Drz fits the bill too damn well for me ;)

This is scary talk. If it does go this way I would have to consider buying a second new DRZ and mothballing it for the future :S

Must admit, an upgrade to the DRZ would be nice. I agree with the others, a 6 speep box, but I would like to see an alloy frame and some subtle upgrades to drop about 10kg off them and lower the COG. I am considering a WR250F as I am struggling with the high up weight characteristics of the DRZ, but I do love the power, stability and I believe the DRZ would be a better commuter than the WR. I am really hoping more time in the saddle will convince me to stay true to the DRZ.

one of the main reasons as to why the dr-z is australia's top selling bike is because it is cheaper then the upper market 450's. a new dr-z 400 is worth from 7500-8000. where as the 450's are up in the tens of thousands. the dr-z's are worth every cent of their dollar. i don't see it in the 450's. i can keep up with a lot of 450's on my dr-z any ways. i have no good reason to want to go bigger.

I don't think rego on the RMX would be good replacement for the DRZ. There is already a dozen registrable 450's on the market. All of them over priced, high maintenance hard core race bikes, this is not what the DRZ is all about. The DRZ is a great all rounder that is capable of almost anything even if it is a bit slower than the others (not that most of us could use all the power of a 450 anyway).

If Suzuki or any other manufacture can give me a bike with the usable power of the DRZ, a six speed, low maintenance, drop 10kg and be as good an all rounder as the DRZ all for under 10 grand then sign me up. Till then the DRZ will be staying in my shed.
