TOPIC: DRZ Initiation

DRZ Initiation 6 years, 9 months ago #2203

I came off my DRZ in the Gnarkat National Park yesterday on my maiden off road/trail ride. Dislocated right elbow. No cuts, bruises, blood etc. No damage to the bike but a cracked indicator. Man its hard work in deep sand. This has made me realise i should stick to the off road touring i have set the bike up for. All the Armour i had on - worth every cent - or I would have had a broken Knee cap, forearm and possibly some ribs as i fell on some rocks on the side of the track.

I was in good company and sorted out fairly smartly after my little mishap. Hasn't dampened the enthusiasm and I cant wait to ride again - perhaps on some easier tracks to start off with.

Cheers

Hi Scarecrow,

I was thinking that you were being brave/foolhardy trying the Border Track so soon after buying your DRZ. Deep sand on any bike is hard work, but a heavier bike makes it even more so.

I am resting my fractured leg and trying to type with a neck brace on. Deep sand got me too.

The border track is alot of fun but it does have some deep sand and tricky parts in it as well. Hope you hae a speedy recovery and get back on the bike as soon as possible! :)

Thanks guys. I suppose what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger - errr Wiser ?? Wish I'd gotten into dirt bikes a lot sooner when I was younger...

Bad luck scarecrow, but at least you've got the first one out of the way. Hang in there and get well soon.

Just an update on my arm - looks like the damage is worse than initially anticipated and I have been referred to a specialist surgeon. Looks like surgery, I'm screwed for a few weeks. Up side is no damage to the bike and my lovely wife has not made a fuss...
