I have an 18 ltr safari tank for my DRZ. When you install this tank there is only 2 fixing points that hold the radiator to the frame because you lose the 3rd which fits to the original radiator shroud, as there is no fixing point on the new tank. My question is, does overtime the radiator fracture or cause a problem without the third fixing point?
Could anybody with an 18 ltr or 28 ltr tank fitted to their bike let me know if they have had any problems or if it is fine as it is.
I have tried to buy radiator guards that fit underneath this tank to no avail for the only reason to brace the radiators. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you will find that the third mounting point is only to hold the standard shroud in position not to hold the radiator.

I have a 18 litre Safari with Scorpion rad guards on mine and they do fit.

You just need to spread the wings a bit wider to get the tank on.

Also added some split tube to the top corners to prevent them rubbing on the tank.

My mate has the same tank with Force Rad guards.

They fit as well but seem to be a lot harder to get the tank bolts in than with the Scorpion ones.

Problem with Scorpion is I am anable to find anywhere that I can mount the horn.

In my opinion if you have the Safari tank you probably don't need Rad guards.

Mine were on already so I just left them there.
If its not broken.
Fix it until it is !!

I run Safari 18lt with Force rad guards. Its a good fit however as mentioned above I siliconed some fuel line around the top of the guards and some teflon at the base where the 'wings' rest to prevent rubbing.

And yes, getting the mounting bolts in is a pain in the arse but as I've do it so many times I've now got it down pat.

Also as mentioned with the Safari tank guards are probably not essential.

I'll post some pics tonight when I get home.

When i bought my safari tank it came with two rubber strips that stick on to the radiators , about 10mm thick , after changing back to the standard tank and peeling them of they split and are now no good .. I just go and get a bit from clark rubber when ever i put it back on ..

does everyone mean 17l safari tank not 18 .... anyway i bought a 17l safari tank (turned out to be 21 litres... bonus) had to make some drastic mods to my b&b rad guards ( cut the hell out of them) only some minor rubbing ... however i did a trip up to the cape and back via the old telegraph track (4500km) not one issue even with crashes you want a little bit of movement so that (if like me you like to see the ground up close once and a while) it doesn't break off parts you want to keep

Is everyone calling this an 18 litre safari tank because that is what they getting in their 17 litre tank ? You should be able to get over 19 litre's in the safari 17 litre tank.

Having had the 28 litre safari tank on my previous bike I must say the 17/19+ is a great size.
