I have used Mitas Stoneking's which are quite durable and pretty grippy (really good edge grip - they are also DOT approved). The guys I ride with rave about them, but I am not convinced they are the best for the conditions we ride (usually slippery clay - dry at the moment)

I have an IRC dual purpose tyre on at the moment which I am finding great - haven't really tried it much in slippery conditions.

I ran Carlsbad's on the KDX when I had it - wasn't much of a fan.

And as for the front - the Michelin M12 I am currently running is the best so far. Far better than the AC10, and the Carlsbad. The AC10 is the worst front I have run so far.

I am a big fan of Dunlop D606's. Use them religiously on my KLR 650, haven't had a chance to put them on the DR as yet but will be when I need to replace rubber. Work well on the dirt and really well for a knobby on the black stuff, get around 6000/7000kms.

I use pirelli scorpions both front and rear.

I just replaced the rear whcih was soft/inter, but only lasted about 1500 k's, put an inter/hard on this time and so far so good. Feels great in the scrub and looks like it is going to last a bit longer.

I did some long days on heaps of single and fire trails with the pirellis and never had an issue (or flat - touch wood) so i stayed with them but think i am going to try to stonekings or the dunlops next to get some comparison.

I checked on Adventure Rider site. A lot of guys like the Mitas E-09 knobby and the Mitas E-07 for road/trail. Supposedly a good compromise of grip/wear rate.

I am in the same boat for needing a new rear tire (and may replace the fron't while i'm at it!). The standard Bridgestone which are on it are just about done at nearly 3000k's and that has been very easy riding on dirt roads and the black stuff! The rear is too bad on the grip factor ;more than i can say for the front, They are a total washout waiting to happen! but i consider 3000km of easy riding a bit too early to wear out. A lot of people are talking about the Kenda Triples now but need to do some more research on them. All i can say is that Bridgestone will never be fitted to my bike again ;)

We'll just get the Dunlop 606 and give those a try. ;)

Thanks to the guys who recommended the Dunlop D606! Just had a rear tyre fitted last week and had a brilliant ride on Saturday on the dirt. Have also been commuting on the bike and the 606 feels good on the road too. Have been adjusting pressures though - about 16psi on dirt and around 25 on the road.
I only got about 1800km out of the stock Bridgestone.
Cheers

Have used 3 sets of D606's on my KLR650 and my choice for my trip to the Cape in a couple of weeks on the DRZ. The only knobby that I feel comfortable with to do the mileage on.
