New Exhaust

After running the performance baffle from www.ballards.cc on my old DRZ I decided to give the new DRZ a new full exhaust system. It was a hard decision and I almost went with a full barrett system but when they explained that the only difference with their header unit was that it was made from stainless I decided to go with just a muffler.

From memory I believe the barrett was 97db and with that information I changed my mind and got the DEP System3 for only $499 and 94db, it is made out of aluminium and stainless tubing which is a great weight saver over the original exhaust. I don't know what the original exhaust is in decibels but 94db sounds a lot louder (just ask my neighbours) but it is worth it for the extra couple of horsepower.

Here is a recording I did using an iphone shoved in my jacket pocket it's not the best quality but it gives some indication how the DEP S3 sounds. Click here to listen

It fits, not much of a surprise since there hasn't been any change from 2007 to the 2009 model. Here are a few photos of the 28 litre Safari Tank on the 2009 DRZ400E.

At last I have some ProTaper bars, will return soon with some installation pictures. As always there is a slight problem, on both sides of the original bars there is a small hole for the electirc start and blinker modules to slide into as shown in the pictures below.

Dunlop D605

After trying the Dunlop D605 I would have to say they are very disappointing. I thought that they would last longer on the road and still be ok in the bush. I found the front was terrible in the bush it always felt like it was going to wash out. I only ended up getting the same amount of kilometres on the road as I would get from a full dirt tyre. My rating is 4/10.
